Multiple Injured as Rough Air Strikes Delta Plane into Sydney, Australia

Multiple passengers and crew sustained injuries following a Delta jet originating in Los Angeles to Sydney experienced turbulence this past Friday.

Flight DL41 "went through a short bout of rough air" as it made its approach and landed at Sydney Airport, a representative for the carrier informed. Several cabin crew members sustained injuries.

Local paramedics stated they evaluated five individuals, and transferred a trio to hospital with relatively minor issues that such as pain in the back and head pain. Those affected ranged from their thirties and seventies.

This marks the most recent case of commercial jets encountering turbulence, with researchers indicating that global warming is a significant contributor.

There were 245 people and fifteen staff members on the Airbus A350, the Delta spokesperson added, adding that the plane touched down "safely" at the airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on the day in question.

Paramedics indicated they were alerted just three minutes before the plane touched down, and response teams were standing by on the runway.

The reasons turbulence is getting more frequent - and potentially more dangerous.

Last year, 25 people sustained injuries when a separate Delta aircraft, on a route from Salt Lake City, Utah to Amsterdam, hit "severe" rough air just a couple of hours into the lengthy trip, and diverted for an precautionary landing.
