The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in employing video review systems.
Replay systems are set to arrive at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Competitors are granted the option to challenge certain calls from the official, echoing the protocol already in place at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
This technology will be operational on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This move arrives only a year after the All England Club introduced electronic line calling, which effectively ended the centuries-old tradition of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Players cannot to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can request the umpire to re-examine specific decisions, including:
- Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a shot touched an opponent's racquet or body during play.
- Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a point.
Importantly, there will be an unlimited number on the number of reviews a player can initiate.
A Recent Example
A recent example took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a tough situation for the umpire, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and determined Draper was guilty of hindrance, granting the rally to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
Video reviews are not exclusive to major tournaments. The system was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews in place at every one of its tournaments.
Other Changes
Another innovation at The Championships this year will be the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses instances where the crowd have sometimes been unsure if a ball was in or out.
Finally, with exactly a century of days to go until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have further announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
